Meanwhile, closer to home in Europe we can see Futsal becoming the latest footballing craze.  This fast paced game originated in South America and is played with a heavier than normal size 4 football for redouced bounce.  This is to encourage a faster passing game and eliminate the ‘long ball’ approach.   We supply a standard Futsal portable pitch of 26m x 16m with 3m x 2m goalposts – a popular choice for the European market.

Here in the UK we haven’t seen the uptake in larger pitches.  5-a-side football is popular throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland but the game is well catered for with no shortage of facilities.  Fustal, on the other hand, is still catching on in the UK and doesn’t have the participation seen in Europe.

The UK trend still seems to be for the smaller, more portable football pitch.  The most popular size StreetStadia has always been the 15m x 10m.  Why? – We think it comes down to portability.  Traditionally, the StreetStadia is used as part of outreach projects or social inclusion programmes.  These activities require a portable football pitch that can be easily transported, usually to inner city areas, where it can be assembled for a short period of time, normally less than a day, before being dismantled and taken away.  The 15m x 10m StreetStadia packs neatly into a 10ft x 6ft x 6ft box trailer making ideal for transportation.

While we expect to see the demand for larger pitches increase over the coming years, there will always be a demand for the smaller portable football pitch.

Our distribution partner in the USA first introduced StreetStadia to the American people back in 2010 and here you can see the young ‘soccer’ fans really getting to grips with portable football pitch.  The StreetStadia is being used as part of a promotional event outside the Florida Citrus Bowl for Orlando City’ home game against New York FC.  Orlando won the game 3-0.

StreetStadia has been well received over in the USA and we will be bringing some more great images in the coming weeks.

StreetStadia takes to the streets of Portugal (below)

These pictures were taken during a promotional event organised by Street Futebol and the local councillors and took place in a small town in Portugal.  On this occasion the StreetStadia was ideal for assembly in the centre of the town creating a focal point for families to enjoy a game of football in a location not normally accessible.

Benfica use StreetStadia in ‘REDPASS’ promotional event

Benfica FC are one of many professional clubs to use the StreetStadia portable football pitch.  Here you can see the StreetStadia being used in Restauradores Square, Lisbon where it has been used to create a safe enclosure so that Benfica players could sign autographs and play futvolei with supporters.  Approximately 500 Benfica fans had the chance to mingle and play with their football idols.

The events in Cannock aimed to engage and inspire young people, with a view to reducing small fires and anti-social behaviour. 8-17 year olds participated in games including dodge ball, football, and volleyball.

Representatives from the fire service gave educational talks about the risks of starting deliberate fires. Teens also got to experience what it’s like to be a car crash and be extracted by fire-fighters with an interactive road traffic collision.

15 pilot events ran over the Easter holidays 2012. They reached 499 youngsters at an average age of 13. The following was observed:

• Decrease of 83% in deliberate fires compared with Easter 2011
• Decrease of 29% in anti-social behaviour

Sarah Bishop, Stafford Borough Local Policing Team Partnerships Manager, said “Initiatives like the Street Stadia could have hugely positive impacts on youngsters, steering them away from anti-social behaviour and forging friendships between opposing community groups.”

The scheme has been rolled out throughout Staffordshire over the summer in Cannock, Rugeley, Stafford and Tamworth. SFRS are working with their partners to make it a sustainable long-term initiative and are actively seeking funding to cover on-going costs. It’s also worth noting that the people that 35% of the teens who participated in the pilot program said they’d probably be watching TV otherwise. Our portable pitch simply pops-up in an open space and can be used for a whole host of sports and games, including netball, hockey and dance to appeal to teen girls. As well as football, martial arts and cricket. We can fit adaptable raised platforms for fitness activities such as yoga, and music events. This is ideal for youth health initiatives and activities which promote music and the arts.

The Spartans Community Football Academy (Spartans) is the home of Scotland’s best known amateur football team and enjoys a high profile within the City of Edinburgh and beyond. In recent years the community aspects of the Spartan’s work (including work with youth teams and the wider local community) has been consolidated and expanded.

Spartans is a registered charity whose vision is to provide the community of North Edinburgh with a community inspired facility to help develop people of all ages via sport & recreational activities.  StreetStadia was therefore the obvious choice for the Street Fitbaw project.

Following discussions with the local community police the Spartans, led by Douglass Samuel and his team,  decided that the StreetStadia portable multi-sport system was the ideal package with which to ensure that they could achieve their objectives.

With help from the Scottish Investment Fund the Spartans secured funding and took delivery of a bespoke 18m x 12m StreetStadia complete with floodlights and trailer in Summer 2011.  The official launch was played out in front of a large audience in Pennywell and was seen as a major new, exciting development for local youngsters.

Working closely with local youth agencies the Spartans are using StreetStadia every Friday night under their Street Fit-Baw Programme and delivering real benefits to local communities by providing 2-3 hours for youngsters to play sport in a controlled, safe environment.

Husband and wife team, Chris and Kirsty Redhead, came across StreetStadia in late 2011 after searching the market for a fun and exiting business opportunity.  After visiting the UK Head Office and seeing the StreetStadia for themselves they, were hooked!
