StreetStadia Tackles Crime with Crusaders Rugby Legends

Stars from the Crusaders have helped launch a new portable football pitch that aims to get young people into physical activity.

Players from the Crusaders Rugby League team were at the launch of the new Flintshire based project together with players from Chester FC and Flintshire Council.

Flintshire’s Young People’s Drug and Alcohol Team and the Flintshire Youth Justice Service purchased the StreetStadia with funding from the Welsh Assembly Government’s substance misuse capital fund.

Lesley Bayley, Service Manager, Youth Justice Service and Young People’s Drug and Alcohol Team commented “This exciting new initiative aims to support young people with activities to interest them in their own local communities.  This type of project has been used successfully in inner cities and we want to use the StreetStadia within both rural and urban settings.”

The StreetStadia travels in a box trailer and is therefore easily transported and assembled. It can be placed almost anywhere to provide a focal point for all kinds of activity, including football, rugby, netball, basketball, tennis, badminton, volleyball, and cricket to name just a few.

Lesley Bayley commented further “The great thing about the stadium is that we can use it in all kinds of ways – it can be set up in car parks where we can encourage young people to come and have a go, and it can also be used for more organised sports events and competitions. We just want as many young people to experience it as possible.”

StreetStadia is the first product of its kind to be manufactured here in the UK and is already providing communities with their own mobile sports and activities venue, where people can play, learn, coach, educate and build relations. It is especially successful at safely challenging inappropriate and anti-social behaviour.
